The goal of the planning study was, in part, to show how the public
amenities of Centennial Lakes Park could be extended into the Edina
Promenade area. This plan is intended to assist adjoining commercial
property owners in their private planning efforts concerning their
properties. The planning study focused on improvements that would better
connect pedestrians and transit users in the area.
Construction of the pathways on City property began in the spring of
2008. The project will include re-grading, installation of the pedestrian
and bicycle pathways and landscaping.

In the spring of 2006, the City hired the Minneapolis-based consulting
firm URS, Inc. for the purpose of preparing more detailed plans for the
publicly owned space generally referred to as the "Edina Promenade." The
planning study for the Edina Promenade was commissioned as a follow up to
the Greater Southdale Land Use & Transportation Study, which was accepted by
the City Council in February 2006.
