Think you can take the heat? Edina Fire Department looking for
Volunteer (Paid-On-Call) Firefighters
Edina, Minn., Feb. 26, 2009 –What do an Edina real estate salesman, pilot,
carpenter, cop and residential architectural designer have in common? They all
lead double lives as volunteer firefighters -- and so can you. Whether you are a
teacher, stock broker, beautician or lawyer, or even if you find yourself
chained to a cubicle -- hose lines, hydrants and helping save a life could be in
your future.
The Edina Fire Department is looking for capable men and women to fill multiple
openings as Volunteer (Paid-On-Call) Firefighters. No prior experience is
required. If you are over 18, able to pass a multi-faceted physical ability
test, live within 10 minutes of Fire Station No. 1 (6250 Tracy Ave.) and have a
strong desire to serve your Edina neighbors, you could be qualified to join
Edina’s firefighting family. All training will be provided upon hiring.
Volunteer firefighters will train as a group and then work on-call through the
use of pagers, interspersing with full-time shift firefighters when called to
duty. Volunteers must work a minimum of six hours per month. According to Edina
Fire Chief Marty Scheerer, serving as a volunteer firefighter is a challenging
and rewarding way to give back to the community.
“The training is rigorous, but the rewards are well worth it,” said Scheerer.
“Knowing you are helping save property and even lives right here in Edina can be
a very satisfying feeling.”
The Department is accepting applications through 4:30 p.m. on Monday March 30
with a voluntary orientation meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8
at Fire Station No. 1. Written and physical exams will take place later in
April. For more information on salary range, testing dates and the physical
ability test, download an application packet at

the Edina Job Hotline at 952-826-0400.
