Mionetto: Over 120 Years of Sparkling Wine

Sparkling wine has become an integral part of many celebrations. Its distinct bubbly fizz can accentuate a toast and add to the enjoyment of any special moment. While Champagne is the most well-known sparkling wine, numerous other styles and types are available. A prime example is Prosecco, made from an Italian grape of the same name, which is a lesser-known sparkling wine that has been proclaimed as a “favorite” by many who have tried it. The Mionetto winery in Italy is the largest producer of Prosecco sparkling wine.

The Mionetto winery was founded in 1887 by Francesco Mionetto, who had an unmatched love and passion for making wine. His work ethic and passion are still apparent in the winery more than 120 years later, and new wine-making techniques have improved on his traditions to bring the winery to its current state.

Today, Mionetto wines are known for being among the best in the Prosecco category. The winery’s primary line, “IL,” consists of many styles of sparkling wines, including Proseccos. The next step up is the “Mionetto” line, which includes the light and fruity Prosecco Brut Mionetto. The top of the line Mionetto is “Sergio,” a phenomenal sparkling wine that is sure to be toast-worthy on any occasion.

If sparkling wine is on your shopping list, Mionetto might be the answer to your wine question. Whether popping a bottle for a holiday get-together or celebrating a major event, Mionetto has a variety of sparkling wines that may be perfect for you.

2006 Natalie’s Estate Pines Vineyard Merlot. With a bountiful taste of black cherry and an outstanding balance between fruit and tannins, this one is ready to drink immediately. Only 195 cases were made, so wrap this one up before it’s gone. $29.99

Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This whiskey is smoky, rich, complex and smooth. Bottled exclusively for Edina Liquor, it tastes excellent on its own or with a favorite mix. 750mL – $23.99

Beer
New Belgium 2º Below Winter Ale. The makers of Fat Tire know how to make a hop-driven seasonal ale! It is golden brown in color and uses a dry-hopping process during fermentation that leaves the taste of cookie dough with a hint of cherry on the finish. 6-Pack – $8.49, 12-Pack – $15.99

Boulevard Brewing Company 12-Pack Sampler. With six different beers to choose from, this sampler has something for everyone. Heavy coffee tones are offered in the Dry Stout and Bully Porter, while lighter styles are available in the Pale Ale and Unfiltered Wheat. If those don’t satisfy the pickiest beer connoisseur, then the sweet-tasting blueberry-flavored Lunar Ale or Bob’s ’47 Oktoberfest should. 12-Pack – $12.99

Tops with Tomko

Brancaia Chianti Classico 2006: Gobs of dark fruit explode from the glass in this Italian classic. This modern-style red is very full bodied and rich with vanilla oak shades framing it nicely. The finish is lingering and full. It is a delicious wine to pair with roast Cornish game hens, polenta with wild mushrooms or three-cheese manicotti. $35.99

Chateau Ste. Michelle Indian Wells Merlot 2005: Ripe and full bodied, the flavors of this Washington State beauty are centered on a dense, yet supple core of black cherry. A touch of syrah was added to enrich the dark fruit flavors. The tannins are oh so soft and the finish lingers. Suggested food pairings include beef tenderloin, pasta with a rich red sauce or beef stew. $18.49

Northstar Columbia Valley Merlot 2005: This wine is generally acknowledged as one of the top merlots produced in Washington state. Strong and pure blackberry and raspberry fruits dominate the palate with beautiful accents of toasted oak, vanilla and mint. This is one absolutely astounding wine. Pair with your favorite aged beef steak, roast loin of pork or cedar plank salmon. Regular price: $53.99. Special purchase price: $34.99 for a limited time.

Responsible Hosting Makes for a Safe Holiday Season

At Edina Liquor, we are always ready and willing to share our expertise in order to help you pick out the perfect wine, liquor or beer for any occasion. However, we also want to encourage our customers to celebrate safely. If you are planning on throwing a holiday or New Year’s bash, being a responsible host should be your top priority.

First, it’s important to be respectful of people who choose not to drink. Always provide alternatives such as water, soda, punch or juice. Non-alcoholic beer and wine are also options some guests may appreciate. Edina Liquor carries a variety of both.

Remember, you are responsible for your guests from the time they arrive to the time they leave. If a guest seems impaired, it is your responsibility to make sure he or she does not get behind the wheel. Always provide an alternative mode of transportation such as a taxi or designated driver, or provide a place for an impaired guest to stay. You could be held liable if a tragedy occurs.

It is also very important to keep alcohol out of the hands of anyone who is under 21. There are serious legal ramifications for serving a minor, and again, you could be held responsible in the event of a tragedy.

Edina Liquor strives to provide every customer with a great shopping experience, combined with products they can enjoy. Our goal is to provide this excellent service while encouraging responsible behavior when consuming and serving alcohol. From all of us at Edina Liquor, have a safe and happy holiday season and a wonderful New Year!
