Citizens' Academy

Get an inside look at the Edina Police Department through Citizens' Academy!Mock Traffic Stop

Join us for this 11-week program, which will give you an informative and interactive look behind the scenes of a the Edina Police Department. Through lectures, demonstrations and hands-on learning, you'll discover the "real" world of law enforcement and how we carry out our mission "To Protect and Serve" on a daily basis.

Some things you'll get your hands on:

  • Mock traffic stops
  • Tour of the Hennepin County Jail
  • Meet on of our award winning K-9s
  • Learn about the Metro Area Drug and Financial Crimes Task Force
  • Proactive defensive tactics
  • Follow the course of a criminal investigation and process a crime scene with a Hennepin County Sheriff's Deputy
  • Get a close look at our SWAT team

And much more!

Upon completion of the program you'll receive an Academy polo shirt, a certificate from Edina Police Chief Long and local recognition as a graduate.

The 2012 Academy begins Tuesday, March 13 and will run through May 22. The class meets from 6 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday for 11-weeks.

Classes take place at the Edina Police Department, 4801 W. 50th St., and the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility, 7525 Braemar Blvd.

Registration

To participate in the EPD Citizens' Academy you must:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Live or work in Edina
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Pay a $25 fee
