Kodiak joined the Edina Police Department in 2002, teaming up with his handler, Officer Kevin Rofidal. Together, they work the night shift stomping out crime. Both K9 teams are available to respond from home 24/7 when needed. When Kodiak tracks criminals, sometimes the track goes a couple blocks, other times he has been known to track for miles. His most recent drug find was two ounces of crack cocaine hidden next to the gasoline cap on an SUV. It is believed the criminals put the drugs in this location to try and distract any police dogs with the odor of gasoline, but Kodiak still found it. A dog has a much stronger nose than humans which becomes a great tool for locating things that people can't find.

When off duty, Kodiak enjoys swimming, chasing a ball or just laying around the house. He lives at home with his handler, Officer Rofidal. Because Kodiak has been working the streets since 2002, he has become known to the residents of Edina. Often time’s people don’t remember his handler’s name, but call out to Kodiak as he is working.
