Patrol Division

There are 39 men and women in the patrol division. These officers patrol the 16 square miles of Edina, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. In 2004, they responded to more than 27,000 calls for service. Those calls ranged from suspicious noises to death investigations. The most frequent calls include alarms, medical emergencies and traffic accidents. The traffic unit is also a part of the patrol division.

Please contact us at least two weeks in advance of your event or meeting, using this online form.

If you want to schedule a tour of the Police Department, use this online form.

If you want a more detailed presentation on a specific topic, please see the Crime Prevention, Services and Programs page or contact Crime Prevention Coordinator Kris Eidem at 952-833-9523.

On a fully staffed eight-hour shift, one supervisor oversees six officers who are assigned to one of five zones. Officers are responsible for preventative patrol in their assigned zone, but may be dispatched to any part of the City in an emergency.

Officers take thousands of reports every year, and made 954 arrests in 2004. Most of the crime reports are for theft and other property crimes. Officers taking a crime report will provide the victim with an information card that includes the officer’s name, the case number and victim assistance information.

The Edina Police Department subscribes to the precepts of community-oriented policing. Residents are encouraged to call with any concerns or complaints. The assigned officer is responsible for working with the resident or business owner to correct the problem.

For more information, contact Lt. Dave Nelson at 952-826-0487.

Please call whenever you need assistance – under-reporting of crime reinforces criminal activity and reduces the ability of the police to solve other crimes.

Please note: Police reports are not taken online. Criminal or suspicious activity should be called in to 9-1-1 so an officer may be dispatched to assist you and assess the situation. This site is not monitored every day.
