Barricade situation -- Parklawn Avenue

Edina, Minn., Jan. 6, 2008 -- At approximately 4:15 Jan. 6, Edina Police Department received a call regarding a suicidal male in an apartment in the 4200 block of Parklawn Avenue.

Officers responded and found that a 36-year-old man had barricaded himself in his apartment and threatened to harm himself. The subject was known to have knives and believed to have wounds.

The Edina Police Emergency Response Team, with assistance from Minnetonka, Hopkins, and St. Louis Park teams, cordoned off the area and evacuated residents from several nearby apartments.

Edina Police negotiators made contact with the subject and over the course of approximately six hours were able to talk him into coming out. At approximately 11 a.m., the subject was taken to Fairview Southdale Hospital for treatment.
